Background and Market Trends: Shifts in the Specified Skilled Worker Market

Labor shortages in Japan have become a significant structural issue, with the number of foreign residents holding Specified Skilled Worker status reaching approximately 390,000 as of March 2026—the highest level on record, according to the Immigration Services Agency of Japan. The Japanese government has projected the acceptance of a total of 820,000 foreign workers across all sectors between April 2024 and 2029, with demand expected to continue growing in the coming years.

In industries represented at this event—including hospitality, nursing care, and logistics—demand for talent remains high, and employment opportunities for international talent continue to expand across a wide range of fields. Interest among students in pursuing careers in these industries is also growing steadily.

Meanwhile, following the temporary suspension of new admissions under the Specified Skilled Worker Visa (i) in the food service industry in April 2026 (※) , many students who had initially planned to pursue careers in the industry are now exploring opportunities in other fields, broadening their career options during the job hunting process.

In response to these changes, GLOBAL REACH has been strengthening its efforts to help students gain a deeper understanding of various industries, including hosting industry specific seminars for students at ISI Japanese Language School within the Group.
