Offering the Japanese Speaking Test “Japrise” Free of Charge at the “WEWORLD CAREER EXPO,” Which Brings Together Approximately 1,000 Foreign Professionals

By visualizing “speaking ability”—which is difficult to assess through the JLPT alone—using CEFR standards, the service supports pre-interview preparation and helps resolve hiring mismatches

“GLOBAL REACH,” a foreign talent recruitment service operated by WEWORLD Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masaaki Ogino; hereinafter “WEWORLD”), will offer the Japanese speaking test “Japrise” free of charge to international students and foreign professionals attending the “WEWORLD CAREER EXPO,” a recruitment event for foreign talent to be held at the ISI Career Foreign Language Academy Takadanobaba Campus on Thursday, October 15, 2026, and 16 (Friday) at the ISI Career Foreign Language Academy Takadanobaba Campus, WEWORLD will offer the Japanese speaking test “Japrise” free of charge to international students and foreign talent attending the “WEWORLD CAREER EXPO,” a recruitment event for foreign talent.

This initiative aims to help foreign professionals seeking employment in Japan assess their Japanese “speaking skills” using an international benchmark, thereby supporting their future job searches and interview preparations.

Background of the Initiative

The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), widely used as an indicator of Japanese language ability, primarily measures “reading” and “listening” skills. On the other hand, in corporate hiring processes, conversational skills are often emphasized during interviews, and we have received feedback from international students stating, “I hold a JLPT certificate, but I have no way to objectively demonstrate my speaking ability.”

Furthermore, an analysis conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare based on the “Reiwa 6 Survey on the Actual Conditions of Foreign Employment” indicates that average wages tend to be higher among those with higher Japanese conversational skills. The average monthly wage for those who responded that they could “engage in a wide range of conversations” was approximately 328,000 yen, which is about 70,000 yen higher than that of those who responded they could “manage short conversations” (approximately 256,000 yen) (*1). Conversational ability is also deeply linked to a student’s success after employment.

“GLOBAL REACH,” backed by ISI Japanese Language School—which boasts a network of approximately 50,000 students across 120 countries—has been committed to “face-to-face recruitment” that allows us to understand a student’s personality and Japanese proficiency beyond what can be gleaned from documents alone. In the field of Japanese language education, it is not uncommon for students to have no trouble with everyday conversation but struggle to fully convey their strengths in Japanese during an interview. We believe that helping students objectively assess their “speaking skills” not only builds their confidence for interviews but also provides companies with valuable insights to prevent mismatches after hiring. For this reason, we have decided to offer Japrise free of charge.

For international talent aiming to work in Japan, understanding how well their Japanese will hold up in the workplace is the first step in their job search. By objectively assessing their “speaking skills”—which are difficult to gauge based solely on JLPT levels—students can approach interviews with confidence, and we believe this also helps companies prevent mismatches after hiring. Moving forward, we will continue to support each individual’s career path through both education and employment assistance.
